Struts, ball joints and the rattle over every bump.

Struts, shocks, ball joints, tie rods, sway bar links and wheel bearings, replaced where the car sits, so it tracks straight and stops rattling over every bump on 905.

What the car is trying to tell you

  • Clunk over bumps. Usually sway bar links or worn strut mounts. Cheap to fix, annoying to live with, and it makes a solid car feel worn out.
  • Wandering, or constant small steering corrections. Tie rod ends or a worn steering rack. This one gets dangerous at highway speed on 22 and 31.
  • A hum or growl that changes when you turn. Classic failing wheel bearing. It gets louder as it goes and it will not fix itself.
  • The nose dives hard when you brake, or it keeps bouncing after a bump. Struts and shocks are done. It also lengthens your stopping distance, which is why this is not just a comfort item.
  • Tires wearing on one edge. Something is out of alignment or something is worn. Replacing tires without finding out which is how you buy tires twice.

What we can do in your driveway, and what honestly needs a shop

Most of it gets done where the car sits. Struts and shocks, ball joints on a lot of trucks, tie rod ends, sway bar links, wheel bearings and hubs are all normal driveway work with the right tools, and the tools ride with us.

What we will not pretend to do is a four wheel alignment. That takes a rack and laser equipment bolted to a floor, and anybody who tells you they can eyeball it in your driveway is guessing with your tires. Any repair that disturbs alignment, tie rods especially, needs an alignment afterward, and we will tell you that before we start rather than after.

A pressed-in ball joint on some unibody cars is the same story. If it needs a press and a lift to do right, you will hear that from us instead of a botched job.

Common questions

Questions we get asked.

Can you replace struts without a shop lift?
Yes. Strut and shock replacement is normal mobile work with proper jack stands and a spring compressor, and both ride in the van.
Will I need an alignment after?
If we touch tie rods or anything that sets the geometry, yes, and we will say so before we start. A strut or a sway bar link usually does not require one, though it is never a bad idea afterward.
Is a clunking noise actually dangerous?
Depends entirely on what is clunking. A sway bar link is a nuisance. A ball joint that separates at speed is a very different day. That is exactly what the inspection is for, and we will tell you straight which one you have.
How long does suspension work take at my house?
Struts or shocks on one axle usually run a couple of hours. Ball joints and bearings can take longer depending on how much rust is fighting us, and we will give you a realistic time before we start.
