A/C blowing warm? We come to you.

A/C diagnosis, leak finding, recharges and part replacement, done at your home or your job. We find out why it quit cooling before anything gets added to it, because a system that is low is a system that is leaking.

What the warm air is telling you

  • Cold on the highway, warm at a stoplight. Usually not enough air moving across the condenser at low speed. That points at a cooling fan, or at a charge that is low enough to only keep up while the car is moving.
  • Cold for ten minutes, then warm. Often a system icing up, or a compressor clutch that lets go once it gets hot. It comes back after a rest, which is why it is so easy to ignore until August.
  • Cold on one side, warm on the other. On a lot of vehicles that is the first sign of a low charge. It can also be a blend door actuator stuck behind the dash.
  • A click from under the hood and nothing changes. The compressor is being told to run and is not engaging. That can be a low charge, a relay, a pressure switch or the clutch itself, and those are four very different repairs.
  • No air from the vents at all, or only on high. That is not a refrigerant problem. It is a blower motor, or the resistor that controls its speed.

Why a can from the parts store rarely fixes it

A car's A/C is a sealed system. Refrigerant does not get used up the way gas does, so if yours is low, it leaked out somewhere. Adding a can without finding where puts you right back in the same spot a few weeks later.

It is also easy to overfill. Too much refrigerant cools just as badly as too little and is harder on the compressor, and the gauge on a single can only shows you half the system.

So we read both sides of the system, find the leak or the failed part, fix that, and then charge it to what the vehicle calls for. A recharge is the last step of the repair, not the repair.

Salt air and a Grand Strand summer

The condenser sits at the very front of the vehicle, ahead of the radiator, where it takes every bit of salt air, sand and road grit that comes through the grille. Out here they corrode and start leaking sooner than the same car would inland.

Then summer shows up. Bumper to bumper on 501 or Kings Highway in July is the hardest thing you can ask an A/C system to do, and it is exactly when a weak one gives out.

Most A/C repairs are driveway work: compressors, condensers, lines, pressure switches, blower motors and cabin filters. A few are not small. An evaporator lives behind the dashboard, and getting to it is a big job on any vehicle. If that is what yours needs, you hear it up front, with the cost, before anything comes apart.

Common questions

Questions we get asked.

Can you recharge my A/C at my house?
Yes. A recharge is the last step though, not the first. If the system is low, the refrigerant went somewhere, so we look for the leak before adding anything.
How do I know if it is the compressor?
You usually cannot tell until it is tested. A compressor that will not kick on is often a low charge, a relay, a pressure switch or a worn clutch, and every one of those is a smaller repair than a compressor. We test before we call it.
Is it worth fixing the A/C on an older car?
That depends on what failed. A leaking hose or a bad relay is a small repair on any car. You get the cost before any work starts, so you can decide with the real number in front of you.
Do you do A/C work at night or on weekends?
Yes. We are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and we come to wherever the vehicle is parked.
